The C Team

Description:

This is a short game made during the IGDA Foundation Game Jam 2022. It is an Android based game made in Unreal 4. It was so fun to make, and I’m proud of what came out of the process!

The production…

The other jammers in my team and I worked together using Helix Visual Client (p4v), Discord, Google Docs, and Unreal 4.

We had two narrative designers (Will & I.)

Will and I worked together to develop the narrative of the game, from imagining the story beats, to naming the characters.

We worked in a shared google doc and individually crafted our own scenes to save time on development.

Using Unreal 4 with guidance from our programmer Melody, I did implementation of the text, character placement, and camera placement.

In order to achieve a blank screen for the intro, I had the camera point to the dark side of the whale model above.

To achieve a tense/domineering mood for our final boss (the above shark named Erika), I used a textured background and placed the camera below and to the right of the model. The lighting here helped to achieve the tense look.

Because of the shape of the whale model, and to achieve an underwater look, I placed water textures below and behind the whale model in places where the camera might see.

To let the player know which orbs of trash can absorbed for points, I placed a brief scene showing the green orbs.

Because Gloria is such a small bird, I placed her and her camera above a singular water texture.

River’s eel model was too long to have in the entire camera shot, similar to Marge, so I focused closer on the face.

The Game Jam process was so fulfilling. And the people I had the chance to jam with were all great. I’m excited for another chance to do a game jam!
